Portuguese trough

El Jadida
Portuguese trough is located in the district Portuguese in the heart of Al-Jadida city. This neighborhood which is classified on June 30, 2004 a World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO for being a model for the exchange of influences between European and Portuguese specifically cultures with the Moroccan culture. The construction of the trough is dating back to the 16th century and it is the most important site in the Portugal's neighborhood. It is been chosen by many filmmakers to shoot their films like the famous film Otello.
The place is used as a container for rain water, and a secret place for the Portuguese. No one knows about it until a Jewish merchant wanted to expand his shop, when he started removing his wall; the water exploded toward him and discovered the trough. The place now is famous among tourists and visitors.
